Hi Steven!
I wonder if all cancertypes depend on what you eat, for instance I think it's easier to understand the link between food and breastcancer, cancer in the stomach etc, but what about braincancer? Can food be playing a big part in preventing that type of cancer or is is mainly due to some type of radiation? And what about lungcancer, can food be of equal importance to prevent it, as non-smoking or avoiding polution?
Anna.

Hi Anna,
we must first look at what cancer is. It is a disease with the uncontrolled growth of cells that were once normal, but then became abnormal. Unhealthy food is the main cause (about 35% of all cancers according to some studies). Chemical toxins, heavy metals and ionizing radiation are 3 other causes. Of course these all interact and are hard to keep apart in the final analysis.
Everyone has cancer cells in his/her body with the average being 7 new cancer cells each day. The immune system in about 2/3 of us kills these malignant cells before they can multiply and take over. The rest of the population has some weakness in the immune response that allows the cancer to thrive.
Hormonal cancers such as breast and prostate cancer are known to have a link to food. Mobile phone radiation can cause brain cancer, but so can food. How about the person who talks on his mobile while eating junk food? Lung cancer has been linked to a lack of fat-soluble vitamins.
Food is crucial to keeping the immune system strong and fit for fight. It takes key nutrients to form killer cells, for example, that are ready to fight the good fight.
